Why? Well, they’re delicious, so that helps a lot. Plus, they go with so many different kinds of food that it’s an easy choice to keep on hand for any occasion. Though they’re pink like a white Zinfandel, the resemblance stops there. These are not sweet wines.
New Castle Liquors is responding to the growing demand for Rosés with four new selections in the past two months. Stop by and pick up one — or all, no judging here — to try soon. Here’s what you’ll find:
2016 M. Chapoutier Belleruche Rosé — Côtes-du-Rhône, France
Belleruche Rosé has aromas of red fruits, currant, raspberry and cherry. On the palate, the freshness is well-balanced and round. In the tradition of the Rhône valley’s great rosé wines, it’s made from a blend of Grenache (roughly 75%), with smaller amounts of Cinsaut and Syrah, making it a great pairing even for the intense flavors of seafood. ABV: 13.5%
2015 Sofia Rosé — Monterey County, California
Feminine and stylish, with a fragrant perfume of fresh strawberries and lavender, this rosé from Francis Ford Coppola explodes with ripe, juicy flavors of cherry, raspberry and citrus zest. This refreshing wine is reminiscent of the popular dry rosés served in seaside café along the French Riviera. Sofia Rosé is crisp, delicate and elegantly fruity with just a kiss of spice on the finish. When served chilled, its refreshing style makes a delicious partner to light summer fare and savory hors d’oeuvres. ABV: 12.8%
2015 Impatience Rosé — Côtes de Provence, France
Château de Berne’s Impatience Rosé is an extremely pale and shiny salmon, pink rose, with a pretty iridescent shimmer. It has a fresh and lively nose, with fairly powerful fruity and floral aromas (freesia) and is frank, generous and seductive in the mouth. This pleasure-filled, flowery summertime rosé, with a long, smooth finish. ABV: 13.5%
2016 Hartley Ostini Hitching Post Pinks — Central Coast, California
This dry, barrel-fermented Rosé from Santa Barbara County is crisp and refreshing with strawberry scents. It’s fruity, crisp and delicious. If the Hitching Post Restaurant & Winery sounds familiar, it was the Buellton, California, restaurant featured in the movie Sideways. There’s a lot of demand for this, so we have a limited supply. Be sure to pick one up soon before it’s gone! ABV: 12.6%
Tarantas Sparkling Rosé — Utiel-Requena, Valencia, Spain
Organically grown Bobal grapes nurtured in the hills just west of Spain’s Mediterranean coast near Valencia make this a tangy, refreshing Rosé sparkler. The Tarantas Sparkling Rosé is steely pink in color, with fruity aromas and flavors of baked cherries, strawberry, apples and melon. Enjoy with spicy dishes, paella, pork and seafood main courses. Some of the highest tested levels of the natural antioxidant Resveratrol can be found in monovarietal wines from southeast Spain’s Bobal grape. NON GMO. ABV: 12.5%
Palisade Rosé — Grand Valley, Colorado
Plum Creek Winery’s Palisade Rosé is a light, semi-sweet Colorado wine made in the traditional style of great Rosé. The grapes are pressed as soon as they arrive in the cellar. The juice is left a very short time in contact with the grape skins in order to give the wine a delicate color. Merlot grapes give a fruity and lively character to this handcrafted wine. A rich viscosity enhances the wine’s silky smoothness. Luscious strawberry and cherry tones abound in the nose and on the palate. ABV: 13%
Underwood Rosé — Oregon
Pinkies down, folks, this is great Oregon wine in a can! Perfect for on the water or on the trails, it’s drinkable, unpretentious and travel-ready. This wine from the Union Wine Company is the perfect wine for action lounging, such as poolside shindigs, outdoor music festivals, backyard BBQ’s with friends or anywhere that calls for serious lounging. It’s set to become your favorite spring and summer staple. Each can contains half a bottle, or two glasses of wine. Tasting Notes: Strawberry, Meyer lemon, and peach. ABV: 12.65%
Don’t be fooled by the color. Though they’re pink like a white Zinfandel, the resemblance stops there. These are not sweet wines.
